About Us

Our programs desire to serve individuals while reducing the symptoms of their diagnosis and enhancing their self-esteem by teaching them the psychology of coping with themselves. We seek to help clients improve or restore their level of functioning through medical compliance, which is monitored by the agency’s home staff.

Our History

April Sweatt founded Saving Lives over two decades ago, in 1995. April, who has over twenty five years of experience in the social services industry, started out small by serving with Catholic Charities in Chicago back in the day. It was not long before April’s dedication, commitment and compassion in the field showed through, and soon, she made it as the Director of one of their community programs.
In the coming few years, April laid the foundation to an after-school program in conjunction with the South Chicago Consortium. Following a six year stint in the community program, April decided to work as a volunteer at a mental health program. It was here that the idea of a Saving Lives came to April in full bloom. The social services professional was pained to see that adults with mental illness were often mistreated or exploited by others. While working closely with these individuals she noticed that people stole from their financial aid, and that they did not receive due attention in many cases.

The helplessness of the situation drove her to lay the seeds of an organization that would leave no stone unturned in offering quality primary healthcare and human services to adults with mental disorders. She named it Saving Lives, Social Services, in true testament to its core motive and objectives. April believed that individuals with mental illness deserved an outstanding level of care and attention, and hoped that Saving Lives Social Services would set a positive example to many other organizations out there, by making a positive difference in these individuals’ lives.

Today, the Saving Lives Specialized Intensive Behavior Modification Program alleviates mental, physical and affective behaviors through the use of behavioral strategies and clinical therapies.
